Opening Keynote: Anthony Carter, Global Chief
Diversity Officer at Johnson & Johnson
Briefing: Cheryl Pearson-McNeil, Senior Vice
President of Global Affairs and Government Relations at Nielsen
In their remarks, Anthony Carter and Cheryl Pearson-McNeil shed light on the business case for diversity and inclusion in the
workplace. "Diversity" focuses on who we are, Carter said, while "inclusion" outlines how we work together, ultimately
factoring into the retention of all employees. Improving
representation of groups in business provides a new framework, or lens, that can lead companies
to innovative solutions to problems they did not even know existed.
Pearson-McNeil offered insight into diversity within the African-American community, a group that represents more than $900 billion in buying power. These consumers are ready
to be marketed to on their terms, which includes mobile media and traditional media channels. Nielsen's "The State of the African-American Consumer” report can be accessed at www.nielsen.com/africanamerican.
