General Sessions begin

Posted By Robert Wray, Wednesday, August 1, 2012

Vibrant music played as the 2012 Executive Leaders Forum opened to a lively group of attendees in the Terranea Resort’s Palos Verdes Ballroom. Active, eager conversation filled the room, then gave way to applause for NEW Chair Michelle Gloeckler (pictured below).

After a hearty thanks to all eighty of our generous Forum sponsors, Michelle introduced an affecting video presentation which asked the question "What’s Your Legacy?” Images of Harriet Tubman, Anne Frank, Rosa Parks and others who have truly made a difference help remind us that what we live is even more important than what we do. In the words of Nora Ephron, "Be the heroine of your own life.”

A thoughtful round of applause went to those at work and at home, encouraging this year’s Executive Leaders Forum attendees to be here.

Sue Klug and Marie Quintana approached the stage. The two respected leaders pointed out Legacy, Sustainability and Diversity as necessary components of work and life, and important women such as Rosa Parks who courageously stood up for what’s right, leaving the world a better place.

NEW Scholarship donors will also receive a copy of Fawn Germer’s book Pearls: Powerful Wisdom from Powerful Women.

Marie shared about her family’s pain in visiting her home country of Cuba, then presented a video that tells the story. She noted that she’s here today in this country because so many miracles happened along the way, and now, she’s here to give back.

Giving back... a superb way to introduce the 2012 NEW Executive Leader’s Forum: whether by organizing, volunteering or attending, so many are here to give back, a legacy that makes a powerful difference
