"Challenging conversations are like dandelions. They start out small, but if untreated, can spread throughout a department or company quickly," Kim Zilliox, vice president, leadership development for Women’s Leadership Coaching, told members at the NEW Leadership Academy supersession held at the Leadership Summit Monday afternoon.

Zilliox (pictured) offered expert advice for discussing difficult topics and approaching conversations for maximum benefit.  She also served as moderator for a panel of executives who offered their own insights. Krystin Mitchell of 7-Eleven Inc., Melissa Donaldson of Walgreen Co., Cathy Horgan of Coca-Cola Refreshments and Laura Underwood of CVS Caremark Corporation shared their personal experiences and lessons learned communicating in the workplace.

"Feedback is a gift to get to the next level of your career if you choose to interpret it as help," Mitchell said.

Horgan added, "I've learned I am not always my best self when I respond immediately."
