More than 350 managers and leaders from Giant/Martin’s of Carlisle, Pa.,  and Ahold USA learned the value of business resource groups at the Fourth Annual Women’s Conference, hosted by Giant/Martin’s women’s business resource group and supported by the Network of Executive Women.

The day-long conference, held Sept. 19, 2012 at the Hilton hotel in Harrisburg, Pa., marked the re-launch of Giant/Martin’s revitalized WAV (Women Adding Value) business resource group, formerly known as the Female Leadership Advisory Council. The conference was facilitated by Rosalyn Taylor O’Neale, president of Leading from the Heart Consulting.

"Our objective was not only to expose our female leadership to a day full of valuable developmental and inspiring topics, but also to explain the value of business resource groups and provide support to the corporate diversity key objectives of building talent, community and the business,” said Alexandra Oles, manager of staffing and diversity for Giant/Martin’s.

The conference included an interactive workshop on emotional intelligence, an overview of the revitalized WAV group, information on the benefits of business resource groups, and an engaging and humorous look at finding balance in the work environment. The day featured a fundraising event for Dress for Success of South Central PA. More than 805 items were donated to the local chapter.

NEW Vice President of Marketing and Sales Nancy Krawczyk presented an overview of the Network. Later, NEW Board member Erby Foster Jr., director of diversity and inclusion for The Clorox Company, shared the business case and best practices for business resource groups.

"I really enjoyed the opportunity to be in front of [so many] women business leaders from Ahold and Giant/Martin’s,” Foster said. "It was very inspiring to see the visible engagement of Rick Herring, division president and Bob Wasikowski, regional vice president, store operations, who also serves the executive sponsor of WAV.”
