Western Michigan focuses on personal branding at fall event

Forty NEW members learned the essentials of branding -- and how to apply those strategies to themselves -- at the NEW Western Michigan fall event, Oct. 2, 2012 at the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Keynote speaker Deborah Guyton, CEO of Vision Matters LLC, offered advice on developing and maintaining a personal brand and cultivating relationships to build your career. "Relationships are key to success, no one gets anywhere without a relationship,” Guyton said.

When developing a personal brand, women should consider their experiences with other people. "Are they positive, negative?” she asked. "Be assertive, go after what you want, but do it with dignity and respect,” she said. "What’s your most powerful weapon?

The "Developing and Maintaining Brand You” event was "a tremendous success, thanks to our sub-committee members, our presenter and attendees,” according to NEW Western Michigan Co-Chair Logistics Jessica Bachand. "We believe that empowering individuals with the skill set needed to establish or strengthen their personal brands will not only provide a competitive advantage, but will allow for personal growth in their career and in their personal life.”

Among the companies sending delegations to the event were Acosta, ConAgra Foods and Kellogg Company.
