The Network of Executive Women feted the women and men of its 19 regions at the first Regional Awards Banquet, held during the NEW Leadership Summit 2012, Oct. 22, 2012 in Dallas.
NEW presented its first-ever achievement awards to six regions and two individuals, recognizing their exceptional performance in furthering the Network’s mission through excellence in leadership, activities and event planning and execution.
NEW has more than 600 regional officers and volunteers, NEW Vice Chair of Regional Activities Maria Edelson, founder and president of Sales and Capability Development LLC, told the crowd of 1,000 attending the gala event. "It's inspiring to see the passion and creativity they bring to their work,” Edelson said. "With no pay and little recognition, they toil tirelessly to create dozens of events and programs each year.”
Tanya Vaughn and Lisa Mulyk represented the NEW New York Metro region, accepting the award for College Outreach achievement. NEW New York Metro "engaged local students starting in high school and serves as a model for every NEW region,” Edelson said.
NEW Twin Cities was honored for Mentoring achievement, including the creation of mentoring circles with three to five mentees being assigned one mentor. Jill McCarthy and Melody Watson accepted the award on behalf of NEW Twin Cities.
The Network recognized NEW Northern California for New Member Onboarding, as it created a program that analyzes each committee position and prepares each committee member for her or his duties. Amber Fain accepted the award for the region.
The best practices award for Internet and Social Media was presented to NEW New England, which maintains a robust presence on Facebook and LinkedIn and uses the social media to promote its own events and to connect to national programs. Accepting the achievement award for NEW New England were Alex Fenelon and Sian Blackwell.
NEW Cincinnati was recognized for Public Relations and Media. Edelson noted the region’s unprecedented publicity efforts for a June 2012 event that featured retired Brig. Gen. Becky Halstead.
