More than 500 Network of Executive Women members learned to align their career goals with their authentic selves at the NEW Northern California event, Nov. 9, 2012 at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, Calif.

The crowd heard from Eileen McDargh, author of My Get Up and Go … Got Up and Went and four other books, who presented two educational sessions, "Leveraging Your Career to Fit Your Authentic Self” and "Radical Resiliency: Leadership Skills for Changing Times.”

During the first session, McDargh told NEW members their career fit should not be similar to squeezing into Spanx. "All we have to do is think, listen and sense where, when and how to craft actions that bring us from good work to great work,” she said. "The result: You feel great and you stop the busy work and start the work that matters. See it, say it, seize it!”

Melissa Galliani of Cumulus Media said she appreciated how McDargh demonstrated ways to "incorporate our dreams into our current situation. It was fun to focus on self for a moment.”

During the afternoon program, members discovered ways to become more adaptable and agile to produce better results. "Radically turbulent times,” McDargh said, "demand professional and personal responses that transcend our regular work and life patterns.”

"[McDargh’s advice was] very real and applicable,” said Sruti Patnaik of Ross Stores. "She connected the dots between work and home and really connected with the crowd.”

Among the organizations sending delegations to the networking event were Acosta, Annie’s Inc., Campbell Soup Company, Catalina, Clif Bar & Company, The Clorox Company, The Coca-Cola Company, ConAgra Foods, Crossmark, Daymon Worldwide, Del Monte Foods, E. & J. Gallo Winery, Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, Heinz, Henkel Corporation, The Hershey Company, Hillshire Brands, Hormel Foods, Jamba Juice, Kellogg Company, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Kraft Foods, MARS Advertising, Mezzetta, Mondelēz International, Nestlé USA, Nestlé Purina PetCare, Nielsen, Peets Coffee & Tea, PepsiCo Inc., Procter & Gamble, PureRed Creative, Ross Stores, Safeway Inc., Sunset Magazine, Unilever and Yes To Inc.
