My company has an employee resource group for women and I plan to start attending the meetings. How can I "make my mark” in this group and gain some positive attention from my higher-ups?

The first thing is to never approach any opportunity for selfish reasons. Ever.

Instead, look the ERG as an opportunity for you to add more value. Bring new ideas, new solutions, new perspectives. As a result of adding more value, your exposure will happen.  Your "mark” will then be made naturally – organically.

Remember to first add value from a business standpoint, then from an organizational standpoint and then be aware of how you can be strategic about leveraging this group to build relationships.  In turn, exposure will come.

Get involved in one of the committees. If you earn a reputation for building future leaders and advancing cultural transformation, I promise you senior executives will pay attention.
