Nearly 350 Network of Executive women members learned way to energize their careers at the sold-out Network of Executive Women Northwest Arkansas spring event, April 4, 2013 at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Rogers, Ark.

Featured speaker Mary Davis Holt, leadership consultant and co-author of Break Your Own Rules, offered attendees strategies for advancing their careers.

"What was most relevant for me was Mary’s thoughts on blowing your own horn,” said Doraine Moran, senior coordinator, operations and support for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "That is not something that I make a habit of doing nor have thought much about. The other big take-away for me was [the idea of] getting out of your comfort zone for growth to happen.”

Sharon Pitt, project manager II, US Innovations, operations support at Wal-Mart Stores Inc., was motivated by Holt’s advice to "take center stage and focus on you instead of others. She mentioned the three Ds: Delete, Delay and Delegate. That stuck with me because I know that is something that I probably need to do.”

Tina Winham, business development manager for Cott Beverages USA, called Holt "amazing,” and said she "left the luncheon empowered and ready to implement new practices that I know will help me grow as a woman leader.”

"The event was a great networking opportunity where Mary Davis Holt raised topics that require personal reflection,” added Dawn Bachman, senior director of accounting controls, supply chain at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "There were several topics that I can personally relate to and need to take action upon to continue my personal career progression.”

Among the organizations sending delegations to the event were Acosta Sales & Marketing, Arvest Bank, The Coca-Cola Company, Colgate-Palmolive, ConAgra Foods Inc., Coty Inc., Crossmark, GlaxoSmithKline, Hillshire Brands, Hormel Foods, JWT/Ogilvy Action, Kellogg Company, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, KNWA, Kraft Foods Group Inc., Mars Chocolate North America, MOM Brands, Nestlé Purina PetCare, PepsiCo Inc., Procter & Gamble, SC Johnson, Tyson Foods Inc., Unilever and Wal-Mart Stores Inc.

The next NEW Northwest Arkansas event is an informal networking mixer featuring tips on work/life balance for executive moms. The mixer will be held May 16, 2013 at the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Bentonville, Ark.
