Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer and EPSN SportsCenter anchor Linda Cohn shared their thoughts on authentic leadership and making it in a "man’s world” at the NEW Northwest Arkansas Women’s Day at the LPGA Breakfast, June 20, 2013 in Rogers, Ark.

The region’s third annual signature event, held at the John Q. Hammonds Center, kicked off the NW Arkansas Championship LPGA tournament. The sold-out event was sponsored by NEW platinum sponsor Kimberly-Clark Corporation.

During her career, Brewer gained confidence and consistency by merging her "work self” and "home self,” she said. "People who work for you want consistency. Put the Blackberry down and pay attention to them.”

Many women, she said, keep their heads down and merely "check things off lists.” Fortunately, a mentor once told her to stop managing minutes and start managing the P/L. "Don’t be a mole in the hole,” she advised.

Cohn agreed. "Create opportunities to be lucky. Who do you know? Let others see you in the business.”

Participating in events like the Women’s Day at the LPGA is crucial to career building, Cohn added. "In a venue like this, with all successful women of all levels, getting together is so key,” she said. "It's about making something happen, about putting yourself in a position to be lucky. And how do you do that? Networking, putting yourself in position for someone to meet you and say, ‘Hey, you got something, let’s exchange numbers.’"

Among the companies sending large delegations to the event were Acosta Sales & Marketing, The Coca-Cola Company, Colgate-Palmolive, ConAgra Foods Inc., Hallmark Cards Inc., Hormel Foods Corporation, Kellogg Company, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, Kraft Foods Group Inc., Mars Chocolate North America, Mondelēz International Inc., Nestlé Purina PetCare Company, Procter & Gamble, PepsiCo Inc., Sam’s Club, Schreiber Foods, The Clorox Company, The Hershey Company, Tyson Foods Inc., Walmart Stores Inc. and WhiteWave Foods Company.
