Northwest Arkansas scores with LPGA event

Brewer and EPSN SportsCenter anchor Linda Cohn shared their thoughts on
authentic leadership and making it in a "man’s world” at the NEW Northwest
Arkansas Women’s Day at the LPGA Breakfast, June 20, 2013 in Rogers, Ark.
The region’s third
annual signature event, held at the John Q. Hammonds Center, kicked off the NW
Arkansas Championship LPGA tournament. The sold-out event was sponsored by NEW
platinum sponsor Kimberly-Clark Corporation.
During her career,
Brewer gained confidence and consistency by merging her "work self” and "home
self,” she said. "People who work for you want consistency. Put the Blackberry
down and pay attention to them.”

Many women, she said,
keep their heads down and merely "check things off lists.” Fortunately, a
mentor once told her to stop managing minutes and start managing the P/L.
"Don’t be a mole in the hole,” she advised.
Cohn agreed. "Create
opportunities to be lucky. Who do you know? Let others see you in the

like the Women’s Day at the LPGA is crucial to career building, Cohn added.
"In a venue like this, with all successful women of all levels, getting
together is so key,” she said. "It's about making something happen, about putting
yourself in a position to be lucky. And how do you do that? Networking, putting
yourself in position for someone to meet you and say, ‘Hey, you got something,
let’s exchange numbers.’"
