The industry veterans highlighted the increasing population of women and people of color in the consumer products and retail industry workforce. Women now comprise 50 percent of the industry’s workforce. People of color, who held 18 percent of positions in the industry’s workforce in 1980, are expected to hold 37 percent of consumer products and retail industry positions by the year 2020.

The event was "a great way to reconnect in a way that brings a lot of people together that probably wouldn’t have connected normally,” said Vesna Stojanovic, senior marketing director at PepsiCo Inc.

"I found it very intriguing to speak with other like-minded women who have similar career goals as me or who may be progressing in their career,” added Julie Fratangelo, senior sourcing manager at J.C. Penney Company. "I really enjoyed the speaker and learning different things about how to move up within an organization.”

Attendees enjoyed snacks from around the world and recipes from the Frito-Lay test kitchen.

Companies sending large delegations to the event included Crossmark, Michaels Stores Inc., Mondelēz International and PepsiCo Inc.
