Positive affirmations and visualization will help women find balance in their professional and personal lives, Tricia Molloy, author of "Working with Wisdom,” told Network of Executive Women members participating in the "CRAVE Your Goals,” action workshop at the NEW Leadership Summit, Oct. 23, 2013 in Los Angeles.

Molloy outlined five steps (acronym: CRAVE) to a happier, fuller life:

  • Clean out the clutter to create clarity and space needed to accomplish goals.
  • Raise your energy to maintain a positive attitude.
  • Affirm success to remind yourself what you know to be true and to counter negative messages.
  • Visualize your goals.
  • Express thanks to focus on what’s going right and show appreciation to others for supporting your success.

"So much of what I’m sharing is just reminding you,” Molloy said. "You were born with this knowledge, but we get ‘caught up.’”

During the session, NEW members shared ways they’d tap into the five steps.

"I’m going to create a gratitude journal,” said one executive, "but not only will I write in it, I’m going to read it every morning before work, because that’s when I get distracted [from what’s going right].”

Another leader said he would find "more creative ways to express gratitude, to take it to the next level” in ways that are personal to the recipient.

Molloy advised taking the Golden Rule – "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” – to the next level as well, by assessing personalities and treating others as they would want to be treated.

One NEW member shared that while she typically questions herself and her worth, Molloy taught her to remember, "I am enough.”
