Sarah Lewis, author of The Rise: Creativity, the Gift of Failure, and the Search for Mastery, will be the opening keynote speaker at the NEW Leadership Summit, Oct. 22-24 in Atlanta.

"Sarah Lewis celebrates the creativity and innovation that comes from failing,” said NEW Summit organizers. "Her insights are a perfect fit for this year’s theme, ‘Innovation You.’” More than 1,000 retail and consumer goods executives and emerging leaders are expected to attend this year’s NEW Summit at the Hyatt Regency Atlanta.

Lewis sits on the faculty of the Yale School of Art and has been profiled as a "great American woman” by Vogue magazine. The New York Times said, "Lewis’s voice is so lyrical and engaging that her book,The Rise, can be read in one sitting, which is so much the better since its argument is multilayered and needs to be taken whole.”

Lewis appears on Oprah Winfrey's "Power List,” served on President Barack Obama's Arts Policy Committee, and has held positions at the Tate Modern and the Museum of Modern Art. Her second book, Black Sea, Black Atlantic: Frederick Douglass, The Circassian Beauties, and American Racial Formation in the Wake of the Civil War, will be published by Harvard University Press in 2015.

The annual NEW Leadership Summit offers inspiration, team building and career development for the entire industry — including emerging and mid-level leaders, senior executives and men who lead women. The NEW Summit features all-star keynoters, career-building workshops, Celebrating Excellence Awards and networking.
