Network of Executive Women members learned to be stronger leaders and boost their professional profiles at the NEW Carolinas
lunch-and-learn event, July 18, 2014 at Red Rocks Café in Charlotte, N.C.
Harvey J. Smith, president of Carolinas
Business Coach, shared tactics to develop and highlight leadership qualities with
65 NEW members.
Workplace relationships, he advised, benefit
from strong communication skills. "Words are powerful to ourselves and others,”
Smith, said. "When you change your words, you change your world.”
Don’t take things personally, he added. Taking
time to understand others can avoid unnecessary friction. "Ask, is that their
style of communicating or are they singling me out?”
Don’t make assumptions, either. "Find the
courage to ask questions,” Smith urged.
Women looking to advance their careers should identify what an exception year
would look like and ask themselves: What does success look like? What attitudes
will empower you to achieve the goal? What activities do you need to do to
the CEO of your life and career,” Smith said.
Companies sending delegations to the event include The Coca-Cola Company,
Family Dollar Stores, Freshpoint Produce, Harris Teeter and The Hershey
Kozminski of Catalina joined featured speaker Harvey Smith
at the NEW Carolinas lunch and learn event.
