Notable quotes: A few words can change your life

As publishers, we live, breathe and work words. We’ve come across quotes that have changed our lives for the better, as we pulled on their meaning, reciting someone’s words internally or aloud.

Some quotes have had such an impact on our well-being, we carry them wherever we go. Here are a few of our favorites:

"I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” — Maya Angelou

We love this quote because the impressions that we make upon one another are lifesaving if we choose to act in kindness and responsibility. Plus, we had the esteemed honor of interviewing this literary great twice. A dream fulfilled.

"If you’re absent during my struggle, don’t expect to be present during my success.” — Will Smith

We take from this quote: It is important to surround yourself with individuals whose behavior reflects yours. If you are rooting for your success, it makes no sense to have people around that don’t share those feelings. Never waste time on people who wish to waste your time.

"Where there is no struggle, there is no strength.” — Oprah Winfrey

Oprah is the mentor in our head. For us, this quote means that nothing great comes from anything easy. When an individual has gone through something, and sees themselves better for it, there is a greater appreciation of one’s purpose and the lessons based on our experiences we can offer others.
