The Network of Executive Women honored its region of the year and regional officer of the year at the third annual Celebrating Excellence Awards, Oct. 23, 2014 in Atlanta. More than 1,100 attendees at the NEW Leadership Summit feted NEW Northwest Arkansas and Nicole Rasmussen, senior audit manager at Deloitte &
Rasmussen, who serves as treasurer of the NEW Cincinnati
region, received the 2014 Bobbie O’Hare Regional Leader of the Year Award. Each

"During her three years as treasurer she has put her strong financial
skills to use, coached and mentored fellow team members and helped NEW Cincinnati
be a model in strategic planning,” said NEW Chair of Regional Activities Marla Thompson of Catalina. "She has sustained partnerships with more than 45 sponsor companies. And she has
played a key role in producing Cincinnati’s hugely popular learning events.”
Northwest Arkansas is Region of the
Members of the NEW Northwest Arkansas leadership team
accepted the 2014 Region of the Year Award. "This region excels on every level
-- including community and college outreach, mentoring, membership and
sponsorship,” Thompson said.
The officers and 50 volunteers of this regional group "have
a passion for change and innovation,” Thompson said. "They have built a high
profile for NEW in one of our industry’s most important business centers.”
In the past year, the region hosted its fourth LPGA Women’s
Day event, obtained extensive local media coverage and leveraged social media. Another
successful initiative: a mentoring program supported by two mentoring events.
"The officers and volunteers of this region are a model of
the transformation we hope will sweep our entire industry, and they deserve all
the thanks and recognition we can give them,” Thompson said.
The Network also presented seven group achievement awards.
NEW Toronto was recognized for financial excellence. NEW Northern California
was honored for excellence in operations. The award for superior college
outreach was presented to NEW New York Metro. NEW Twin Cities was honored for
its outstanding mentoring program. NEW Southern California received an award
for achievements in programming and events. NEW New England was honored for its
excellent public relations and social media/Internet efforts. NEW Atlanta was
recognized for its achievements in sponsorship. An achievement award
for financial excellence was presented to NEW Toronto.
"The Network’s regional officers and committee members are
on the front lines of our movement, driving workplace transformation in 20
regions that stretch from Toronto to L.A., Seattle to Tampa -- and our newest
region, NEW Denver,” Thompson said. "Run entirely by volunteers, our regions
host more than 100 learning events and mixers each year. They facilitate
mentoring. Enroll regional sponsors. Use social media and PR. Introduce college
students to our industry. Recruit new members. And advance women’s leadership
in their companies and communities.”
More than 650 NEW members served as a regional officer,
committee member or volunteer in the past year, honing their leadership skills,
raising their profile and making valuable connections, Thompson added. "These
leaders didn’t just help the Network, they helped drive transformation at their
organizations and in our industry.”
