The William J. Grize Hall of Fame Award was presented to Mike Gorshe, managing director, CG&S and food retail at Accenture, at the NEW Leadership Summit's Celebrating Excellence Awards Gala, Oct. 23, 2014 in Atlanta. More than 1,000 Network members and supporters were present as NEW Secretary Regenia Stein of Ingenuity Consulting, last year’s Grize Award recipient, presented the award.

The William J. Grize Hall of Fame Award is named after the late Ahold USA CEO, an early advocate of industry diversity. It honors industry leaders who have demonstrated "an enduring commitment to the advancement of women and to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.”

"Mike has this extraordinary talent with people,” Stein said. "He is at ease in any situation — even when he’s the only man in a room filled with 30 strong-willed women. He suits up and shows up. He doesn’t always talk, but when he does people always listen.”

Gorshe, whose first job was bagging groceries for his hometown Kroger store, served on the NEW Executive Committee from 2004 to 2011, including his tenure as the Network’s industry relations chair. Since 2011, he has served as a director at-large and NEW Ambassador.

In a tribute video played during the gala, senior industry leaders celebrated Gorshe’s integrity; sincerity; willingness to collaborate; commitment to mentoring and sponsorship; and vocal, effective support for women’s career advancement. "He is a pillar of NEW,” noted NEW Past Chair Michelle Gloeckler of Wal-Mart Stores Inc. "He visibly supports women in their careers.”

Campbell Soup Company CEO Denise Morrison praised his leadership, saying he "leverages optimism and passion to make important things happen.”

Gorshe, whose career includes 24 years of leadership at Accenture, is a founder of Friends of the Industry, which funds scholarships for high achievers interested in cpg/retail careers.
