"Do one thing every day that scares you," advises three-time Olympic soccer medalist and ESPN broadcaster Julie Foudy at the NEW Cincinnati learning event, Oct. 30, 2014.

Foudy shared inspiring personal experiences and stories of perseverance with more than 630 NEW members and supporters at the event, held at the Horseshoe Casino in Cincinnati.

"The magic happens outside of your comfort zone," Foudy said, urging professionals to "sing 'Summer Lovin’' opera-style, or do anything that scares you to get out of your comfort zone."

True champions, "are not crazy, we are courageous," she said.

Leadership, she added, is personal, not positional. "What is your style? Be you. Know your authentic self."

Success is not a matter of chance, but of choice, Foudy said. "Same goes for leadership! Choose your own path."

Teamwork and motivation are essential keys to effective leadership, she noted. "Attitudes are contagious. Is yours worth catching?"

During the event, the NEW Cincinnati regional committee thanked outgoing officers Lisa Holsclaw of The Kroger Co. and Tiffany Menyhart of Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company; celebrated the region's "Best of the Best" honoree Nicole Rasmussen, who received the NEW Regional Leader of the Year award at this year's NEW Leadership Summit; and welcomed incoming NEW Cincinnati Co-Chair Jill McIntosh of The Kroger Co.

Organizations sending large delegations to the event included Accenture, Advantage Sales & Marketing, Campbell Soup Co., The Coca-Cola Company, dunnhumby USA, The J.M. Smucker Company, Johnson & Johnson, Kao USA, Kellogg Company, Kimberly-Clark Corporation, The Kroger Co. Mondelēz International Inc., Nestlé Group, Procter & Gamble and The Hershey Company.
