More than 370 NEW members and supporters learned to amplify their energy for career success at the NEW Twin Cities fall learning event, Nov. 6, 2014 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Bloomington, Minn.

"Maximizing Energy in a World that Sucks You Dry" was led by Cindy Maher and Carol Grannis, founders of Leading Edge Coaching & Development, who shared leadership lessons through improvisational comedy. Being fully engaged at work requires maximum energy, the coaches said, noting the most engaged team members have strong personal or psychological attachments to their organizations.

Maintaining a high energy level requires attending to body, mind, emotion and spirit, Maher and Grannis said. Healthy and moderate eating, adequate sleep, reasonable work hours and active breaks help insure physical well-being. Reducing multi-tasking and the use of interruptive technology eases the mind.

To support emotional health, cultivating a positive outlook and practice expressing appreciation, they advised. Feeling a sense of purpose in work and understanding personal values strengthens the spirit needed to face energy-draining situations.

Organizations sending large delegations to the event include Altria, The Coca-Cola Company, General Mills Inc., MOM Brands, Schwan's Consumer Brands Inc., SUPERVALU and Target Corporation.
