NEW Denver embraces change at February event

"Change is 'the new black,'" Meredith Masse, senior vice president at Innovative Career Consulting, told 80 NEW members at the NEW Denver learning event, Feb. 5, 2015.

While change has become a constant in the business environment, "people don't resist change, they resist being changed," Masse said during her keynote presentation, "Leading Compassionately through Change."

Effective communication is essential to navigating change, Masse said. She urged NEW members to consider four Ps and an R when considering and communicating change:

  • Purpose – the "why"
  • Picture – what the future will look like
  • Plan – how you'll get there
  • Part – the role employees play
  • Repeating communication 

Understanding not just the "what" but the "why" for any change is critical for successful transformation, Masse said. Engaging employees in seeing and feeling why change is important is key.

Organizations sending large groups to the event include Altria, King Soopers and WhiteWave Foods.
