NEW Executive Institute recognizes ‘grads’

Fourteen women from nine leading retail and consumer goods companies were recognized May 13, 2016 for participating in the NEW Executive Institute, a year-long leadership development program for emerging executives.

Created specifically for high-potential women with a proven track record, NEW Executive Institute combines 360-assessments with academic research; small-group, onsite and online learning; one-on-one coaching; and ongoing networking.

Recognized during a pinning ceremony at the Institute’s third and final onsite session at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill., were:

"These emerging executives personify what NEW is all about: harnessing the learning, tools and networking opportunities that support women’s leadership and truly accelerating their performance,” said NEW Vice President of Learning and Advisory Services Kathy Bayert. "NEW Executive Institute is designed to prepare women who are three to five tiers from the top of their organizations to take the next step. Since last fall, we’ve seen these talented professionals grow their confidence and leadership skills to help guide their organizations to the next level of profitability and sustainability.”

During the closing NEW Executive Institute onsite session, "Driving the Business, Transforming Your Life,” participants focused on business ethics and integrity with Adam Waytz, associate professor of management and organizations at the Kellogg School of Management, and learned ways to build and sustain a strategic advantage with Professor of Management Policy Jeroen Swinkels. They also heard from Michelle Buck, clinical professor of management and organizations, who shared strategies for leading with vision and purpose. Victoria Medvec, executive director of the Center for Executive Women, offered strategies for effective negotiating.

The NEW Executive Institute closed with Carrie Bienkowski, CMO of Peapod, and Ronald Parker, CEO of Executive Leadership Council, sharing their experiences "Maintaining Values and Balance."

Learning and networking 

"NEW Executive Institute provided meaningful insights into my strengths and opportunity areas. The experience helped me connect with my underlying values and authentic self, which I’m confident will unlock stronger, more diverse perspectives that will enhance my contributions to my organization,” said Sandra Hand of The Hershey Company.

"I’ve created a lasting network of talented, high-potential women who have become friends and colleagues, committed to supporting each other through the growth opportunities and challenges ahead,” Hand added. "I’m confident this experience will have a lasting impact on my leadership journey.” 

NEW Executive Institute launched last July with a 90-minute orientation webinar, followed in October by two days of learning in Dallas that were devoted to the benefits of coaching and managing health and wellness. In February, NEW Executive Institute met for a week-long international experience in Amsterdam, which included a special networking dinner hosted by Heineken.

The inaugural NEW Executive Institute was sponsored by Ahold and Procter & Gamble. It was delivered in partnership with the Center for Creative Leadership, Tignum and Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Applications for NEW Executive Institute 2017 will be accepted starting mid-July 2016.
