NEW Leadership Summit October 12-14 is loaded with options
Wednesday, August 12, 2009
The Network of Executive Women has announced an ambitious agenda for its eighth annual Summit, October 12-14, 2009 in Dallas. The agenda will include three keynote speakers, six workshops, a free pre-Summit workshop and optional events, including Retail Safari® store tours and Deep Dive Career Management Workshop. More than 500 consumer products and retail executives are expected to attend the Summit of NEW members.
Attendees will choose from six breakout sessions in three learning tracks: Career Development, Core Competencies and The Changing Workforce. Karlin Sloan, CEO and founder of Karlin Sloan & Company, will lead an interactive workshop on “Resilient Leadership,” focusing on how participants can bounce back in times of rapid change. A second career development workshop, led by Jo Miller, CEO of Women’s Leadership Coaching, will offer lessons on “Winning the Game of Office Politics.”
Suzanne Bates, president and CEO of Bates Communications, will present a unique Core Competencies session, “Storytelling: Developing and Presenting Powerful Business Presentations.” The other workshop in the Core Competencies track is “The Look of Success: Avoiding the Image Ceiling.” In this session, Kathryn Lowell, founder of Image Matters, Inc., will explain how individuals can establish a strong professional brand in the workplace.
The Summit’s third track will look at two dimensions of today’s Changing Workforce. Leah Reynolds, national lead for generational strategies and rewards communication at Deloitte Consulting LLP, will be joined by USA Today Money reporter Jayne O’Donnell in presenting “Reach Your Gen Y Customers by Engaging Your Gen Y Employees.” Trudy Bourgeois will moderate “Leveraging the Multicultural Organization,” a panel discussion that will explore how to drive cultural change and enroll white men in diversity and inclusion.
Accelerated learning
The Summit opens Monday, October 12 with optional Retail Safari® store tours. The Safari will take attendees to five diverse Dallas area retailers to see first-hand “smart ideas in design, merchandising, retail marketing and promotions.” The Safari is scheduled to visit Fiesta Mart, Newflower Farmers Market, Save-A-Lot, Ulta Beauty and Walgreens. Separate registration required.
A free pre-Summit workshop, “Accelerate Your Summit and Career,” will be led by Donna Rae Smith, founder and chair of Bright Side, Inc. The practical hands-on workshop will help attendees get the most from the Summit and “pay dividends throughout your career.” The workshop will explore learning and reflection techniques, identify strengths and weaknesses, and help participants overcome barriers to change. A special Accelerate Your Summit and Career networking event immediately follows.
Just after the Summit, the Network’s Deep Dive Career Development Workshop will help attendees understand their work styles, maximize relationships, improve communications, increase effectiveness and build strong mentor partnerships. This one-day session will be led by Sandra Bushby, director of global diversity for Pfizer, and includes a Birkman Workstyle Analysis, a $3,000 value. Separate registration and pre-work is required.
The first 120 Summit registrants will qualify for a complimentary Resilience Assessment and one-hour feedback session with a Karlin Sloan & Company executive coach. Ten face-to-face feedback sessions are offered October 14 on a first-come, first-served basis. Additional feedback sessions will be provided by telephone.
All Summit sessions will be held at the full-service Sheraton Dallas Hotel in the heart of the city's downtown art and financial district. A limited number of rooms are available at the discount rate of $169 per night. For reservations, call the hotel direct no later than Friday, September 25 at (214) 922-8000 and mention the NEW Leadership Summit.
The Summit is restricted to Network members who have registered online as part of their organization's national sponsorship of NEW, or individuals who have paid their annual membership dues. NEW supporters interested in attending can join NEW for an annual fee of $200.
