Walmart COO Bill Simon is named Network Champion

Bill
Simon, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S.,
has been named a Champion of the Network of Executive Women.
"Champions play an important role in
promoting the organization’s mission,” said NEW President-elect Michelle
Gloeckler, vice president for Candy & Impulse, Walmart U.S. "Bill is a
leader for diversity within Walmart, and the Network of Executive Women values
his leadership as we continue to provide collaborative engagement opportunities
that advance women and drive business. "
The mission of the Network is to attract,
retain and advance women in the consumer products and retail industry through
education, leadership and business development. The Network promotes gender
diversity, career development and networking online and face-to face at
national leadership conferences, educational workshops and regional networking
events in 15 American cities.
NEW President Alison Kenney Paul,
principal at Deloitte LLP, called the appointment "fantastic news," adding
that it is another example of the Network's "increasing recognition by
industry executives of the importance of NEW’s mission and the business
imperative of driving a diverse workforce in CPG and retail.”

Bill Simon
Bill Simon joined Walmart in March
2006 and was promoted to chief operating officer in 2007. Simon is responsible
for approximately 3,700 stores within the company’s U.S. operations. He was
previously the executive vice president of professional services and new
business development, where he managed pharmacy, optical, tire and lube
express, photo and connection centers. Prior to joining Walmart, Simon worked
for Brinker International and served as secretary of the Florida Department of
Management Services, responsible for the state’s operations and administrative
functions, including health care benefits, human resources and facilities
