Saturday, April 24, 2010
More than 230 consumer
products and retail industry executives attended the Network’s Dallas/Ft. Worth
networking luncheon and listened as a "Men of NEW” panel shared their views on
the advancement of women in the workplace. The event was held April 21, 2010, at
the Doubletree Galleria in Dallas.
Michael Marx, vice president,
Southwest Division for The Kroger Co.; Adam Sussman, vice president and general
manager, growth ventures, for Frito-Lay; and Wilson Zhu, senior vice president,
global sourcing, for Michael’s Stores, provided insights on a range of topics,
from successfully gaining support for ideas to expressing opinions effectively
in the workplace. The event was moderated by Fawn Germer, best-selling author
of The NEW Woman Rules published by
Network Books and available in our online Store. Highlights included
discussions about showing emotion at work, the reality of organizational
politics and taking control of one’s career.
The event attracted a record
level of male participation, including at least 30 male executives from the
industry. Several men brought along high-potential leaders they were mentoring.
Seven MBA students from Southern Methodist University Cox School of Business
also attended the luncheon.
Major
companies, including Coca-Cola, Deloitte, Kimberly-Clark, Kraft Foods and PepsiCo,
were represented. Attendees scored the event highly, with a majority rating it
"excellent.” The event received an average grade of 4.8 on a 5.0 scale in a
post-event survey.
"The Men of NEW” was the Dallas/Ft.
Worth region’s second event this year. A mixer at Frito-Lay headquarters in
January drew more than 150 participants.
