The Network of Executive Women Atlanta held its first steering committee meeting March 3 at the Westin Buckhead Atlanta following the NEW Multicultural Workforce Conference 2011. NEW Atlanta is the Network’s 17th region.

"With nearly 6 million people, Atlanta is the capital of commerce for the southeastern United States,” noted Chaly Jo Moyen, NEW Atlanta's co-chair for logistics and group director of global retail strategy and portfolio for The Coca-Cola Company. "Atlanta has the country's fourth-largest concentration of Fortune 500 companies and more than 75 percent of Fortune 1000 companies have business operations in the metropolitan area.”

Atlanta is the world headquarters for NEW sponsors Coca-Cola and Newell Rubbermaid and many major companies, including The Home Depot, Georgia-Pacific, UPS, Delta Air Lines, Turner Broadcasting, Earthlink, Focus Brands and The Athlete's Foot.

NEW Atlanta has filled its leadership positions and is quickly filling its committee roles, Moyen reported. "We've had an amazing level of interest from across the CPG, retail and marketing services organizations.”

Leaders line up

Joining Moyen as NEW Atlanta officers are Program Co-Chairs Peggy Prescott, manager of human resources and labor relations for Kroger, and Lori Smith, advertising manager for Kroger, plus Co-Secretaries Martha Johns, shopper insights category advisor for Kraft Foods, and Tammy Bliss, vice president of supply operations for Clorox Corporation. Kathy Caldwell, senior vice president of client services for Acosta, and Margaux Wynter, marketing manager for Deloitte, serve as co-treasurers.

Other leaders include Event Programming Committee Co-Chairs Jeffery Tobias Halter, director of diversity strategy for The Coca-Cola Company, and Gabrielle Austin, vice president of account development for Valassis; Regional Mentoring Committee Chair Elizabeth Ubell, vice president of global category management for Newell Rubbermaid; and Event Planning Committee Chair Sarah Vassy, manager with Deloitte.

Megan Figliuolo, national client insight manager for Acosta, and Ilenia Santiago, senior manager for Accenture, are event registration committee co-chairs. Event activities committee co-chairs are Carrie Stec, director of business development at Catalina Marketing, and Janice Chastain, training manager for Colgate-Palmolive Company. Co-chairs of the NEW Atlanta mixers committee are Julie Basile, group director, sports drink category for The Coca-Cola Company, and Kelly McGolrick, director of sales for Georgia-Pacific. Tracy Downer, sales executive for Valassis, serves as Internet committee chair. Cheri Morgan, retail operations manager for Walmart business team for Kraft Foods, and Catherine Horgan, vice president, national retail sales for Coca-Cola Refreshments, co-chair the membership committee.

"Atlanta is a vibrant market and NEW Atlanta is off to a terrific start with passionate leadership and an energetic team driving the Network’s mission,” said Joan Toth, president and CEO of the Network.
