The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. is leveraging the Network of Executive Women to help launch its Women Executive Leaders Leading (The WELL) business resource group.

The group, led by Marie Robinson, A&P senior vice president, logistics and supply chain, hosted Network veterans at a meeting at the chain's Montvale, N.J., headquarters on Aug. 11, 2011. Appearing on behalf of the Network were Ellen Compesi, national account manager for Diamond Foods and NEW Metro New York treasurer; Ilea Evans, customer development manager for Campbell Soup Co. and NEW Philadelphia program committee chair; and Bridget Acox, client business manager for Acosta Sales and Marketing and NEW Metro New York steering committee member. The trio addressed 30 A&P executives and emerging leaders who recently joined NEW, sharing ways to get the most out of their Network membership.

"We appreciate Bridget, Ilea and Ellen for taking time out of their busy lives to come and share their personal experiences with NEW with us and for helping us become oriented to the NEW website and other resources,” Robinson said. "We at A&P look forward to living up to our mission: ‘To attract, support, retain and advance women through educational and networking opportunities and to create business opportunities through community involvement.’

"We chose the name ‘The WELL’ for our group because of its multiple meanings. It expresses our desire to be advocates for women, children and family wellness, and to align behind A&P’s efforts to provide opportunities for a healthy lifestyle within our communities. It also expresses our desire to provide a place where our members can come for social interaction with a spirit of nourishment and community.”

The WELL will support the retailer’s goals to be a company that better reflects its communities and customers and to become nationally recognized as an employer of choice.
