Sue Klug, president
of the Southern California division of SUPERVALU, and the NEW Northern
California regional committee were awarded the Network of Executive Women’s
2011 "best of the best” regional awards at the NEW Leadership Summit, Sept. 20
California leadership team was presented the "Best of the Best” regional
committee award. Klug, co-chair, logistics, of NEW Southern California, was
presented with the Bobbie O’Hare Award as the year's outstanding committee
member. Each year, members of the Network’s 17 regions nominate one person as
their Best of the Best committee member. These members are honored during each
region’s fall event and are eligible for the Bobbie O’Hare award.
"Sue played an
instrumental part in the founding, management and engagement of her region,”
noted former NEW Regional Chair Bobbie O’Hare, vice president of sales
development for JOH, who helped lead Network’s creation of regional groups.
"She is a servant leader, an individual that leads a large retail business but
also gets in the trenches to get work done.”
When nominating Klug
for the award, members of her committee wrote, "We are mentored by just
observing how she conducts herself, how she runs our team and how she handles
challenging situations. She is a role model to all of us — and to virtually all
who know her.”
Klug was "absolutely
critical ensuring NEW Southern California’s growth,” added NEW Regional Chair
Maria Edelson, founder and president, Sales and Capability Development LLC.
"Sue's tenacity and deep belief in NEW's mission and NEW as an organization are
key reasons NEW Southern California is the vibrant and successful region it is today. She is a role model of leadership because she leads by doing.”
California leads way
As recipient of the
Best of the Best Award, NEW Northern California and its team of nearly 50 committee
members were recognized for serving as a constant source of best practices,
which are shared by all of the Network’s regions. The group led the way in
social media and piloted new succession planning tools, O’Hare noted. NEW
Northern California also was the first region to serve as a mentor for a
start-up region, a program that will be modeled for every new region.

has truly demonstrated outstanding performance over time across every metric,”
Edelson said. "They are a role model for other regions. These volunteers have
always been willing to share their time for reapplication in other regions. We
look for even more great things from them in the future.”
O’Hare lauded all of
the Network’s regional leaders and volunteers, recognizing "how much work our
regional groups do all around the country, all day, every day.
"This year NEW
regional groups will reach close to 8,000 attendees at more than 50 mixers,
receptions and educational events," she said. "This program is the lifeblood of NEW, and I
want to thank those leaders in every region who made it happen."
