Convenience industry celebrates NEW and NACS

More than 100 industry leaders toasted the Network of Executive Women and NACS at a special reception marking the Network's 10 anniversary and the 50th anniversary of the convenience/petroleum industry association, Oct. 3 during the 2011 NACS Show in Chicago. The event was held at the NACS Hunter Club Lounge at McCormick Place.

Real progress has been made in the advancement of women in the convenience channel, but great opportunity remains, noted Jennie Jones, vice president of marketing, convenience store sales division for S&D Coffee, who led the Network’s engagement with the c-store industry. "I’d like to see the convenience industry, especially on the retail side, take full advantage of the business benefits that come with diverse leadership that represents the customers it serves,” she said.

NEW President and CEO Joan Toth noted the Network’s 4,700 members, now representing 400 companies, are active in 17 regional groups across the nation and in Canada. "I want to thank NEW Chicago for their support in putting together this event,” she said. "The NEW Chicago team is an example of the volunteerism and grassroots commitment that drives our mission.”
