Network of Executive
Women Past President Alison Kenney Paul, NEW past Board member Trudy Bourgeois
and more than 80 professionals from Network title sponsor Deloitte participated
in the 2011 Out & Equal Workplace Summit in Dallas, Oct. 25, 2011.
Paul, Deloitte vice
chairman, U.S. Retail leader and principal; Bourgeois, founder and CEO of The
Center of Workforce Excellence; and NEW member Nicola Johnson, Deloitte
principal, presented "Diversity and Inclusion: The New Business Imperative” at
the conference, a nationally recognized convention supporting lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender professionals in the workplace. The workshop focused on leveraging diversity as
a source of innovation, customer connection and market positioning.
The three industry
leaders provided strategies for developing and retaining a diverse population
of employees and a framework to think holistically about diversity that focuses
on business and shareholder value.
"The Out & Equal
Workplace Summit offers a great opportunity for leaders to think about
diversity in a very broad sense,” said Bourgeois, coauthor of the research
conducted in partnership with NEW that was presented at the conference.
"Retaining top diverse talent is critical for organizations to thrive in a
market where the consumer is changing dramatically. At the end of the day, the
very essence of any company’s success is tied to the decisions that are made
about diversity and inclusion.”
