The Network of Executive Women Canada is sponsoring Canadian Grocer magazine’s new Star Women in Grocery Awards, designed to recognize the important role women play across all areas of the grocery business.

Nominations must be submitted by April 15 for contributions made at a Canadian company in 2011. Women may nominate themselves or a colleague by submitting nominations online

Finalists will be chosen by a panel of editors from nominated women from retail, vendor, supplier and wholesaler companies, from head office executives to store-level up-and-comers. The finalists willbe revealed in Canadian Grocer’s May 2012 issue. Ten Star Women Award winners will be announced in the magazine’s June 2012 issue and at canadiangrocer.com

"The Star Women in Grocery Awards support the tremendous inroads we continue to see for leadership roles for women in CPG and retail,” said NEW Canada Public Relations Committee Chair Gabby Nobrega, principal, Breakthrough Communications. "This is a dynamic industry and women play such a key role helping to shape the industry and driving it forward. NEW Canada is very excited to be a sponsor of this groundbreaking initiative that will provide a forum to honor and recognize these trailblazers.”

The Canadian Grocer award will recognize women who have demonstrated excellence in four areas: influence, innovation, dedication and leadership. "Influence” includes each nominee’s record of influencing others internally and externally to look at the business in a different way to improve current practices, create new strategies and work with others to achieve growth. "Innovation” will be judged on candidates’ record of innovation in their organizations. Nominees’ "dedication” will be assessed by their commitment to the industry and their communities through charitable or philanthropic involvement, as well as involvement in at least one industry organization. Each candidate’s "leadership” characteristics must include a commitment to mentoring.

The Star Women in Grocery Awards judging panel will consist of editors from Canadian Grocer, Marketing Magazine and Canadian Business.
