Nearly 225 Network of Executive Women members and guests learned how to "unblock the path to power” at the NEW Florida spring networking event, April 27, 2012 at the University of South Florida’s Marshall Center in Tampa.

Keynote speaker Mary Davis Holt, co-author of Breaking Your Own Rules: How to Change the Patterns of Thinking that Block Women’s Path to Power, addressed the faulty assumptions keeping many women from realizing their potential.

The executive coach offered six rules that will help women attain their career goals. Instead of focusing on others, women should "take center stage,” Holt said. "The ‘superwoman’ concept needs to be replaced with knowing you can delegate, delete or delay.” Other "new rules” include: Project personal power, proceed until apprehended, play to win and be politically savvy.

"The only person you can change is you,” Holt said.

Among the organizations sending delegations to the event were Acosta, Advantage Sales & Marketing, Catalina Marketing, Melitta USA, PepsiCo, Publix, Sweetbay Supermarkets (Delhaize America), Safeway, University of Florida and University of Tampa.
