3M, maker of Post-It, Scotch, Scotch-Brite, Scotchgard,
Nexcare and other popular branded products, has joined the Network of Executive
Women as a platinum sponsor.
"Diversity is more than a priority at 3M. It is the company’s business model,”
said Nancy Krawczyk, NEW vice president of sales and marketing." 3M is
achieving more than 60 percent of its sales outside the United States and
relies on a diverse global workforce to understand the needs of those diverse
customers and generate ideas that yield innovative solutions.”
3M has made steady progress increasing the number of women
and other minorities in leadership positions. "Our success depends on diversity
as well as cultural savvy and agility as we work with colleagues around the
world,” said Pauline Allison, marketing director for 3M, which has 84,000 employees
globally. "We provide training, tools, networking opportunities and a variety
of mentoring programs to all employees who demonstrate leadership potential.”
3M also requires new employees take a diversity awareness course.
3M’s Diversity and Inclusion Department ensures that
candidates from diverse backgrounds have a place at the company, Allison noted.
Members of its employee resource and affinity groups, including its Women’s
Leadership Network, lead internal initiatives and programs and frequently
participate in campus recruiting activities.
3M operates in 65 countries and sells products in nearly 200
countries, and is known as the innovation company that never stops inventing.
The company recorded global sales of $30 billion in 2011.
