board chair’s message

As Chair of the Board of Directors, Network of Executive Women, it is my privilege to help guide our organization through interesting — and rapidly changing — times.

The retail and consumer goods industry is confronted with pressures inside and out. Our workforce must do more than ever before. And the need for workplace transformation — and women’s leadership — has never been greater.

To attract, retain, develop and advance the best talent to leadership roles, companies must confront gender inequality head on. Leaders must rid the industry of outdated policies, programs and unwritten rules that discourage diversity and undermine the business benefits of women's leadership. We all have to take ownership of eliminating the conscious — and unconscious — biases that prevent our talent from achieving their best.

But creating a workplace with no limits requires more than advocacy. It requires action. The Network's nearly 10,000 members representing 750 companies and 100 corporate partners are working to create change.

NEW supports their efforts through industry-specific learning programs designed specifically for emerging leaders, mid-career women and senior executives; two highly-regarded annual conferences, the NEW Executive Leaders Forum and NEW Leadership Summit; and more than 100 local events in 20 regions in North America.

Over the next two years, the Network will invest in new technologies and infrastructure to support our fast-growing, increasingly diverse membership and partner companies, providing the tools needed to fuel the industry's transformation. Our goal: Magnify our impact by growing membership to 25,000 members by 2020 and increasing representation of men to 10 percent, new generation leaders to 20 percent and multicultural women to 30 percent.

NEW is volunteer-driven. Nearly 1,200 members — more than one in 10 — serve as a NEW leader or volunteer. But our true strength lies not in the size of our community, the power of our programs or myriad member benefits. It lies in our commitment.

Each of us can be agents of change. Join our growing Movement and find out what you can do at newonline.org/itstime.

Sincerely,

Karen Stuckey
