“I made the decision to move my family across the country from the Southeast to the Pacific Northwest to seek new career opportunities. Although the road has not been smooth, it has been the best decision I have ever made personally and professionally. At the time we made the move, my son was finishing his freshman year of high school. There was no way to tell how he would adjust to the move. He has flourished in our new home state, which has allowed me to focus my attention on career development.

I have had some great mentors and leaders who have created environments for me where if I stumbled, it was okay. I have been able learn and grow from my experiences as a result of their support.

It's been nearly 15 years since I joined my first women’s diversity and inclusion group and although I feel women have made progress, companies have a long way to go to get to gender parity.

To close the gender gap, we must continue to take personal responsibility for our action and inactions. We each have a responsibility to bring men along for the journey.

Through NEW, I have been given many opportunities to attend multi-day conferences, regional events and intimate lunch-and-learns with great speakers, leaders and peers. I have chosen to use that knowledge to help me grow as individual and advance my career and to share those learnings with others — and that is entirely up to me to do.”
