Many women still don’t negotiate. Or make counter offers. Many don’t like to say, “No.” We are often reluctant to ruffle feathers. The problem: Being uncomfortable or unwilling to negotiate is one factor contributing to the gender pay gap.
A few months ago, I attended the National Association of Female Executive Women's Leadership Summit and had the privilege of hearing leadership coach Bonnie Marcus. Marcus kicked off her talk with a personal story of being blindsided when she did not get a promotion she deserved.
Since I joined the Network of Executive Women last year, I’ve learned more about the subject of “unconscious bias.” But until I listened to David Wilson speak about unconscious bias, I hadn’t truly considered my own unconscious bias.
