Abstract: “Women 2020” is based on dozens of original interviews and focus groups conducted in 2012-2013 as part of the Network of Executive Women’s NEW 2020 research initiative. It includes original interviews and extensive supporting research from business and academia. “Women 2020” examines the business benefits of women’s leadership in the retail and consumer goods sector; how women can lead the way to a more diverse, inclusive workplace; the barriers to women’s leadership, including deep-seated cultural and institutional gender bias; work/life and “the motherhood penalty”; the special challenges faced by women of color; and how the expectations of Millennial employees align with women’s work goals. Concludes with action agenda for organizations and individuals.
